The primary purpose of the Department of Corrections is to transport all lawfully detained male and female prisoners along with juvenile offenders in an efficient, secure, humane manner and provide safety to the general public, staff members and detainees. The Corrections Transportation Unit provides 24 hour service, 365 days a year. Inmate populations are managed at locations throughout the State of New Jersey. The Department of Corrections also maintains and monitors Home Electronic Detention and Labor Assistance Programs. The Department also provides local law enforcement agencies general assistance and training.

Agency’s Basic Requirements and Application Process
The Gloucester County Department of Corrections is a New Jersey Civil Service department. We follow all guidelines for Civil Service job applications and testing. Individuals seeking employment in a County Corrections Officer position must apply for and pass a Civil Service exam. They will then be placed on a list for consideration based on passing test scores.
Requirements per Civil Service for application are:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum age of eighteen (18)
- U.S. Citizen
- Medical Evaluation
