The Elks Township Police Department was established on November 7, 1969. The department consisted of one fulltime police officer and a part time Police Chief. Currently the police department has 12 fulltime officers. Elks Township, primarily known as an agricultural community, is made up of almost 22 square miles at the southern end of Gloucester County. On many township roads, visitors can find roadside markets offering the best in Jersey Fresh produce, continuing its great tradition of farming. Through good planning, Elk Township has been able to maintain a “country” feel to its growth and residential development. It is easily accessed by major state and county roadways in southern New Jersey and offers a positive environment for business development and expansion.

Agency’s Basic Requirements and Application Process

  • Must be a citizen of the United States;
  • Must be 21 years of age;
  • Of sound body and of good health;
  • Sufficient for membership in the New Jersey retirement system;
  • Able to read, write and speak the English language well and intelligently;
  • Of good moral character, and;
  • Has not been convicted of any criminal offense involving moral turpitude
